Guardianship Case Advocate
Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada, a non-profit, public interest law firm, is seeking a full-time Guardianship Case Liaison. The Liaison will work directly with the Guardianship Attorneys and their clients who are seniors and individuals with disabilities under guardianship. The Guardianship Case Liaison will visit the clients in group homes, schools, medical facilities, hospitals, adult day care facilities, job sites, and personal homes. During these visits, the Liaison will discuss housing conditions, safety issues, and physical and medical issues with the clients and housing staff, medical staff, caregivers, family members, and others involved in the clients’ care.
The Guardianship Case Liaison must be highly organized and must be able to work independently. The Liaison will be responsible for managing visitation schedules, calendaring follow-up visits, and maintaining a client database. The Liaison will also be responsible for preparing and providing written reports directly to the attorneys.

Legal Service Fund Attorney
The Legal Service Fund at Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada is seeking a full-time Attorney to provide critical legal services to its clients who are the backbone of this community: those who work in our hotels and casinos. The Fund was developed through a partnership with the Culinary Union Local 226, Unite Here Bartenders Union Local 165, participating employers, and Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada to help safeguard the legal and economic wellbeing of eligible employees and their families. Assistance is varied and covers eviction and housing related issues, predatory lending avoidance, wills, powers of attorney and healthcare directives, immigration, debt collection, record sealing, and other issues. The entire Legal Service Fund team is available to provide thoughtful mentoring and guidance, but each Staff Attorney leads their own cases with different attorneys offering different expertise on the fields of law.

The ideal candidate is committed to public interest law and community service and has the desire to work with and zealously advocate for our clients. While some litigation experience is helpful, no prior experience is necessary as Legal Aid Center provides extensive training. The ability to speak Spanish is always beneficial. Statewide Advocacy, Outreach and Policy Director Duties
Type of Position: Independent Contactor (1099) position.
The Statewide Advocacy, Outreach and Policy Director (Statewide Advocate) provides support to all five members of the Nevada Coalition of Legal Service Providers (“Coalition”)The core responsibilities of the Statewide Advocate include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Lead, coordinate and support legislative advocacy efforts on behalf of the Coalition, with a particular focus on legislation intended to create and improve the legislative process for legal aid clients.
- Initiate policy initiatives and lead on urgent statewide legal aid issues.
- Participate in statewide committees, task forces, and commissions on issues which impact legal aid programs.
- Participate in media and messaging efforts that promote legal aid programming.
- Participate in community education programs that educate the public about the availability of civil legal aid and educate policy makers about the need to cultivate legal aid resources.
- Coordinate and collaborate with legal aid providers, the Nevada Access to Justice Commission and the Nevada Bar Foundation to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the manner in which legal aid is delivered and propose policies to improve the same.
- Develop and foster relationships with community leaders, legislators and members of the media.

The Civil Justice Summer Fellowship will provide a law student from an ABA-accredited law school who meets the Nevada requirements for student practice (Rule 49.5) the opportunity to work full-time during the summer with attorney mentors in one of our project areas: Family Justice Project, Children’s Attorneys Project, or Consumer Rights Project. The fellow will gain practical legal skills, from interviewing potential clients and drafting documents, to court appearances and final resolution.

Guardianship Attorney
The Guardianship Advocacy Program at Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada is seeking a full-time Staff Attorney to provide creative and zealous advocacy to vulnerable seniors and adults facing guardianship. The program’s attorneys champion the civil and constitutional rights of their clients by providing direct legal representation to these vulnerable adults. In court, the guardianship attorneys give voice to their clients’ wishes and preferences ensuring those wishes are considered in matters affecting all aspects of their lives. The Staff Attorney position is not just a desk job. Over the course of a case, the attorney will be responsible for interviewing their client at the client’s residence, meeting with interested parties, negotiating with opposing counsel, conducting discovery, and representing the client in court. The attorney’s representation continues throughout the life of the guardianship. When an issue arises, the attorney is there to protect the client’s interests. The entire guardianship team is available to provide thoughtful mentoring and guidance, but each Staff Attorney leads their own cases.
The Guardianship Advocacy Program, which started in 2018 and has grown to 17 full-time attorneys, is the first and only practice of its kind in the United States and is a model to which other states in the country look for inspiration. The program’s attorneys have the opportunity to engage in cutting-edge legal representation to protect the most vulnerable members of the community. In addition to direct client representation and extensive courtroom advocacy, the attorneys also have the opportunity to advocate for statutory reforms and develop working relationships with policymakers and stakeholders around the state.

Consumer Rights Attorney
The Consumer Rights Project at Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada is seeking a full-time Staff Attorney to provide creative and zealous advocacy and direct representation to low income clients in cases involving fraud and deceptive trade practices, payday/title loans, vehicle purchase and repair, real estate issues and debt collection defense. The attorney will seek to minimize the financial harm to clients in precarious situations as well as seek redress from defendants who continuously prey on the poor in violation of the law to maximize their own profits. The attorney will also assist in community outreach to educate the community about their rights and assist other attorneys in the unit.
The Consumer Rights attorney can engage in cutting edge litigation, including class action litigation. The program attorney also has the opportunity to advocate for statutory reforms to promote economic justice for low-income consumers, guard against unfair and predatory legislation, and address critical and systemic issues impacting low income and vulnerable populations. The attorney can also develop working relationships with policymakers and stakeholders at the state and federal level on consumer protection issues.

Self-Help Center Staff Attorney
Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada, a non-profit, public interest law firm has an immediate opening for a Self-Help Center Staff Attorney to assist self-represented litigants in family court. Partners in Pro Bono Program
This program pairs volunteer law students with experienced attorneys to work on a pro bono case. The student participates in every aspect of the case from the initial client interview and demand letter through litigation. The types of cases include family law, civil fraud, bankruptcy, and possibly appeals to the Nevada Supreme Court and cases in federal court. This program begins in September and students are highly encouraged to remain involved in the case until completion. Student practice is also an option for those who qualify under the court’s student practice rule. For details, email
Volunteer Education Advocate Program
Children with disabilities in the Clark County foster care system need an advocate to ensure their school is meeting the student’s disability-related needs. Volunteers are needed to interact with the school district for services or accommodations and to participate in the IEP process on behalf of the student.
