Custody
Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada provides free legal services to low-income families and individuals in need of assistance. We offer legal classes, counsel, advice, and direct representation, with priority given to victims of domestic violence. A custody case is a legal action filed by one parent to obtain custody of a child. Custody is also handled in a divorce case. However, when the parents aren't married, the court must address paternity, child custody, child support, and visitation in a custody or paternity case.
To apply for legal representation in a custody case, you must first attend the free Paternity/Custody class. Click here to see the class schedule in English. Haga clic aquí para ver el horario de las clases en español. In the class, you'll receive an intake packet and information on how to apply. Bring your intake packet to our office during walk-in hours (Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) to meet with an intake advocate.
You can also visit the Family Law Self-Help Center, located inside the Family Court and Services Center, or online here for court information and forms. Staff at the Family Law Self-Help Center cannot provide legal advice.
