The Education Advocacy Program at Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada is seeking a full-time education advocate to provide creative and zealous advocacy for children with disabilities who are struggling to receive services and accommodations from the school district. The advocate will work under the supervision of an education advocacy attorney, maintain our client database, screen clients for assistance, conduct interviews, and attend IEP meetings to advocate for students. Our advocate will attempt to negotiate the delivery of appropriate services and accommodations and if unsuccessful, assist the attorney in drafting documents to be used in due process hearings and in court. Our office is expanding this unit and wants to see children reach their full educational potential despite bureaucratic barriers in their way.

The ideal candidate is committed to public interest law and the education rights of children with disabilities. Experience in education law or advocacy is preferred, but not required. The ability to speak Spanish is always beneficial. The candidate should be an excellent writer and communicator as should be highly organized. Tenacity in the face of mind-numbing bureaucracy is essential.
