In 2023-24, Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada will early hire committed future public-interest attorneys who will provide civil access to justice to vulnerable people in Clark County, Nevada.

MISSION

The mission of Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada is the preservation of access to justice and the provision of quality legal counsel, advice, and representation for individuals who are unable to protect their rights because they cannot afford an attorney.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Early Hire Pipeline to Justice Program is a program established in 2022 by Legal Aid Center to hire students, recent graduates, and judicial clerks interested in publicinterest law. Preference is given to candidates who are diverse, first-generation law students from underrepresented backgrounds, and those who speak other languages. This program benefits the vulnerable community of legal aid clients by ensuring we employ staff who better reflect our diverse community.

In September of each year, Legal Aid Center will recruit public-interest minded 3L/4L law students and recent graduates to begin working at Legal Aid Center in July following graduation. When they start in July 2024, they will receive three weeks paid time off to study and take the Nevada bar exam with the bar exam fee paid.

Early Hire Pipeline to Justice Attorney Position

Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada announces our “Early Hire Pipeline to Justice Program” where we are hiring for attorney positions starting in the summer of 2024. The program is for 3L and 4L law students, judicial law clerks, and recent graduates to onboard as full-time Staff Attorneys in 2024 to provide creative and zealous advocacy to our clients. Our Staff Attorneys represent marginalized and disadvantaged clients such as survivors of domestic violence, tenants facing eviction and homelessness, adults with disabilities and the elderly facing abuse and exploitation, consumers victimized by fraudulent and deceptive business practices, children who have experienced abuse and neglect, and many others, giving them a voice in court and a chance to regain control over their lives.

The ideal candidate is committed to public interest law and community service and has the desire to work with and zealously advocate for our clients. Preference is given to candidates who are diverse, first generation law students, from underrepresented backgrounds, and those who speak other languages. For students who are still in law school, those hired will begin employment in July 2024 and receive three weeks paid time off to study for the bar exam. Fees for the bar exam itself will also be paid. For judicial law clerks who are applying, employment can commence in August 2024, at the time the judicial law clerk position ends.

The starting salary for a  new law graduate is $70,000, with slight increases for those with judicial clerkship experience. Our excellent benefits include annual salary increases,100% employer paid health insurance for an employee, spouse/domestic partner, and dependents up to 26 years old, loan repayment assistance which usually pays the entire student loan payment, a 403(b) retirement plan with a dollar for dollar match up to 5% of an employee’s salary after 12 months of employment, 12 weeks paid parental leave, a generous paid time off policy, and flex work options. Reasonable relocation benefits also available. Benefits start on date of hire.
